Cylindrical lens are widely used in laser area. Cylindrical lens,belongs to custom optical components, can creat a laser line in laser marking and inspection systems. There is plano convex and plano concave also spherical cylindrical lens. Cylindrical lenses are used to focus or expand light in a variety of laser and light-based equipment for applications, such as laser scanning optical metrology systems, laser alignment and inspection tools, and laser additive manufacturing and laser processing equipment.
A cylindrical lens is a lens which focuses light into a line instead of a point, as a spherical lens would.Cylindrical lenses are optical lenses which are curved only in one direction. Therefore, they focus or defocus light only in one direction, for example in the horizontal direction but not in the vertical direction.
Astigmatism means "no point focus". A cylindrical lens will cause all object light rays that fall on it to be focused to a single point because the curvature is similar regardless of the orientation. In an astigmatic situation there is a spherocylindrical lens present.
Spherical lenses curve horizontally and vertically around your face, giving the goggles a bubbled look. Cylindrical lenses curve horizontally while remaining flat vertically, giving a flat look.Imagine a sphere made out of glass and let’s say we cut at any plane completely across the sphere. Now imagine that, instead of cutting a glass sphere, we cut a glass cylinder. We need to cut the cylinder with a plane parallel to its axis of rotation (that would be the longest axis).
